Veteran Kikuyu singer Gachati Wa Thuo has asked Kenyans to help him raise money following the auction of his vehicle to offset a bank loan.

The singer, who turned to gospel music after embracing Christianity, is now at the risk of losing his home and an acre of land valued over KSh 20 million due to a KSh 3 million debt.

The troubles for Gachati began when he stopped performing in clubs, a decision he made after his conversion, which significantly reduced his income.

This financial strain resulted in the repossession of his personal car. In a bid to stem further loss, Gachati shared his plight with Karangu Muraya, who helped organize an impromptu fundraiser.

That evening fundraiser, held at a city hotel and streamed live on social media, urged Kenyans to contribute. By the grace of God, KSh 1.7 million was raised, offering some relief to the singer and showing the power of community support.

Kenyans took to the appeal with fervor, heaping praise on Gachati's courage and generosity. Many hailed the collective effort as an instance of love and solidarity, which gave Gachati hope to recover from the financial setback.

This incident depicts the challenges artists can face when changing career paths or a way of life, especially if it interferes with their livelihood.

Gachati's story also reminds us of the role communities can play in supporting their own during difficult times.

As the singer continues to navigate this difficult period, the generosity of Kenyans offers a lifeline, keeping his home and land from immediate auction and giving him a chance to rebuild his life and career.
