ICE ARRESTS 67-YEAR-OLD NIGERIAN MAN CONVICTED OF COCAINE TRAFFICKING IN THE US

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have arrested a 67-year-old Nigerian man, Aderemi Joe Akefe, who was convicted for cocaine trafficking.

The U.S. Homeland Security disclosed this in a statement on Friday, December 5, 2025.

NIGERIA TIGHTENS CASH WITHDRAWAL LIMITS TO CURB MONEY-LAUNDERING RISK

Nigeria's central bank announced sweeping changes to its cash management policies on Tuesday, introducing stricter withdrawal limits and scrapping fees on excess deposits in a bid to curb cash dependency and tackle security and money-laundering risks.

Effective January 1, 2026, individuals will be limited to cumulative weekly withdrawals of 500,000 naira and corporates 5 million naira, the Central Bank of Nigeria said in a circular to banks and financial institutions.

SUDANESE FORCE HOLDING SURVIVORSOF DARFUR SIEGE FOR RANSOM

The Sudanese paramilitary force that besieged then overran a city in Darfur in late October is systematically holding trapped residents for ransom, killing or beating those whose families cannot pay, witnesses, aid workers and researchers say.

Reuters could not determine exactly how many people the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias have detained in and around al-Fashir, capital of North Darfur. But the accounts suggest that large groups are being held in a cluster of villages within 80 km (50 miles) of al-Fashir, while others have been brought back into the city as the RSF demands payments worth thousands of dollars from their relatives.

SOUTH AFRICA MOVES TO BLACKLIST OVER 500 FIRMS

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed in a parliamentary exchange that 509 cases had been flagged for possible blacklisting, although only 18 suppliers have so far been formally restricted.

The remaining 491 potential cases are still awaiting documentation from the government entities that must initiate the process.

Godongwana stressed that the National Treasury is not empowered to act without referrals. He noted that the Presidency submitted the full list of cases to Treasury in September, prompting Treasury to follow up with major state institutions, including Eskom, the Umngeni Water Board, Transnet, and several provincial departments.

Some entities, such as the MICT SETA, have filed the required information, while others have had their submissions returned due to incomplete details.
