Lamine Yamal has spoken out against racist chanting during Spain vs Egypt friendly, describing the incident as deeply disrespectful and unacceptable.

The match, which ended in a goalless draw, took place at RCDE Stadium. During the first half, sections of the crowd were heard making chants described by authorities as Islamophobic and xenophobic. Spanish police have since launched an investigation into the incident.

In response, stadium officials displayed a message at half time urging fans to refrain from discriminatory language. The warning was shown again early in the second half, though it was met with mixed reactions, including boos from some spectators.

Yamal, who is a practicing Muslim, addressed the situation on social media. He acknowledged that the chants were aimed at the visiting team rather than him personally, but said that did not make them acceptable. He emphasized that targeting a religion in any context is offensive and harmful, calling such behavior both ignorant and racist.

He also noted that football should be a space for unity and enjoyment rather than a platform for discrimination. While recognizing that not all supporters share such views, he directed his criticism at those responsible for the chants, urging greater respect within the sport.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation also condemned the incident, reaffirming its opposition to racism and any form of abuse in football. In a public statement, the federation stressed that there is no place for such conduct in stadiums.

Spain's head coach Luis de la Fuente echoed these sentiments, describing the chants as intolerable. He added that individuals who engage in such behavior use football as a platform for negativity and should be identified and removed from the sport.

The fixture had originally been scheduled to take place in Qatar but was moved to Barcelona due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Spain made several changes to their lineup following their recent win over Serbia, with Yamal being the only player to retain his place. Egypt, meanwhile, were without key forward Mohamed Salah due to injury.

The result also had an impact on Spain's position in the global rankings, as they dropped from the top spot following the draw.
