Popular Gengetone artist Shalkido is fighting for his life after being involved in a serious road accident along Thika Road in the early hours of Sunday, October 5.
According to reports, the Ngunde Ngurume hitmaker was riding his motorcycle back to Nairobi when the accident occurred around 4 a.m., shortly after performing at an entertainment joint in Thika.
Media personality Oga Obinna, who was among the last people to interact with Shalkido before the crash, confirmed the incident, recounting their final moments together that morning.
"When we were leaving, we lost him at some point. We met again at the merging road to Thika. I fueled his bike, and we proceeded," Obinna told journalists.He added that they rode together until just past Kenyatta University, where Shalkido waved and took an exit, marking the last time they saw him before the unfortunate news broke hours later.
Obinna said he later received distressing reports that Shalkido had been involved in a serious accident, sustaining severe head injuries and was rushed to a nearby health facility.
Eyewitnesses reported that the artist was bleeding from his ears when he was found at the scene, before being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for emergency treatment.
Police have since towed his motorcycle to a nearby station as investigations into the exact cause of the accident continue.The incident comes just months after Shalkido made a modest return to the public eye, sharing details of his financial struggles and appealing for help from well-wishers.
Earlier this year, the artist revealed he had reached rock bottom, posting photos of his difficult living conditions and requesting assistance to start a boda boda business.
His plea moved comedian Eric Omondi, who mobilised fans through his Sisi kwa Sisi initiative to raise funds and gift him a motorbike.
The accident has left fans and fellow artists deeply concerned, with many flooding social media platforms to send prayers and messages of support for his recovery.
