Socialite-turned-TikToker Maureen Imbayi, popularly known as Black Cinderella, has come out swinging after a Nairobi court ordered her to pay KSh 6 million in damages to comedian and media personality Oga Obinna over a defamation suit.

In a fiery TikTok post, the outspoken creator appeared unfazed by the judgment, boldly declaring that she plans to file for bankruptcy rather than pay the hefty amount.

"Why should I run? You stand, pay, and tell Your Honour this is it. I'm going to claim bankruptcy. I have no payslip, no property, nothing," she said in a now-viral clip.

Cinderella, who is well-known for her sharp tongue and "online court judge" persona, said her income from social media is too little to cover such a fine. She also admitted to having resorted to morally questionable means to make ends meet, adding that "the little I earn cannot even buy peace, let alone pay six million."

The case stemmed from a 2023 interview on Radio Jambo's Massawe Japanni show, where Cinderella allegedly made defamatory remarks about Obinna.

The radio host and the station were also sued alongside her. Obinna maintained he had never met her and that her claims badly damaged his reputation and brand partnerships.

A Nairobi court sided with Obinna, ordering the trio to pay KSh 5 million in general damages, KSh 500,000 in aggravated damages, and an additional KSh 500,000 in place of a public apology.

Obinna celebrated the verdict online, saying, "My brand was burned, my reputation destroyed, and they never apologised. Today, justice has been served."

Meanwhile, Cinderella insists she's broke — but unbowed. "Let them take whatever they want," she quipped. "You can't squeeze water from a rock."
