Media personality and comedian Ofweneke has publicly criticized Kenyans for exploiting tragic events for attention following the untimely passing of artiste Shalkido.
Shalkido succumbed to his injuries on the evening of Monday, October 6, 2025, after being involved in a grisly motorbike accident. The artiste had been in critical condition and in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital. A heartbreaking video was shared on TikTok by his family, where his cousin, standing alongside his father, confirmed the doctors' grim news.
In a strong statement released on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Ofweneke condemned what he called a "sick" and growing trend of using death to chase social media engagement.
He emphasized that only those with a genuine relationship with Shalkido should speak publicly about him, specifically calling out fellow media personality Oga Obinna as one of the few with a legitimate right to comment, given their close friendship.
"The only person who can speak of Shalkido is Obinna, who they were friends and alimsadia. Nyinyi wengine print hizo screenshots za maDMs na mtupe huko kwa matakataka!! NISIONE SCREENSHOT INGINE!!" he added firmly.
Bahati's Revelation Sparks Backlash
Ofweneke's remarks came shortly after musician Bahati faced criticism for sharing details about his final conversation with the late Shalkido.
On Monday night, Bahati took to social media to reveal that he and Shalkido had recently been planning a music collaboration, which was tragically cut short.
He also posted a screenshot of a humble direct message from Shalkido requesting the joint project:
"Vipii bro, hope you're doing well? Just said I reach to you, I'm really humbled kuomba collabo kwa D and Bossy Bahati."
Bahati's post, which included the private message, was viewed by some as an example of the kind of attention-seeking behavior that Ofweneke was speaking out against.
